VOIX: uOttawa BFA Gradshow 2018

VOIX is a student curated and organized exhibition showcasing the work of twenty-eight emerging artists, who has transformed the Department of Visual Arts’ building into an exhibition space.

Anika Lalonde has explored the relationship between urban spaces and her displacements within it, fulfilling a city's intended purpose of exploration and enjoyment. Cellphone footage, sound recordings, samples of collected objects, written observations and memories allow her to archive her findings. The result is a personalized map of screenshots from video footage, assembled with the aid of Google Maps for accuracy and street identification.

The historical map of Ottawa created in 1911 is used as a reminder of past cartographical methods and eases the identification process of the landscapes's ever-changing state. Viewers of this work have the ability to unfold layers of Ottawa's past in six interactive stations.
